Artful Lodger

Walking into the Artful Lodger in Newport is like walking into the warm hug of a long lost friend. This is a masterful renovation of an 1850 grand property. The room we stayed in was beautifully appointed, with period details lovingly incorporated throughout the property. Heidi is an EPIC, classic, New England Innkeeper. Heidi cares deeply about her guests' experience and she goes waaaaay above and beyond to make sure you are happy, comfortable and welcome. We felt more relaxed than we had in years! Everything fun and interesting in Newport is just a few minutes away by foot or car. The breakfast was wildly delicious and the view from the third floor breakfast room is breathtaking! If you would like to be welcomed, relaxed and enjoy an incredible, classic New England inn experience, look no further than the Artful Lodger.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Artful Lodger! It was a last minute trip and we didn’t arrive until late in the evening, but the self check in was simple and parking is easy. The Estelle room was clean and comfortable, and we had everything we needed.

We had a wonderful stay this weekend in The Artful Lodger Inn. Honestly when we booked it we didn’t have much expectations from the photos online, however they do not do this place justice. The rooms were spotless clean, the bed and pillows were very comfy. The welcome cookies on arrival were a lovely treat. We were arriving in late and this was accommodated for us. The breakfast was fantastic and they went above and beyond to do takeout for us as we had an early start Saturday morning. We will definitely be back to stay, this truly is a little gem!

The Inn is in a great location close to the Cliff Walk, mansions on Bellevue Avenue and the quieter side of Thames Street. Our room had a very comfortable king sized bed and was very clean although a little tight for two people along with the barely adequate bathroom/shower/sink accommodations. Also the noisy room air conditioner could be a nuisance but it kept the room cool. The toiletries were at the level of a Quality Inn which was disappointing considering the high price tag. It would take very little to upgrade these little touches which do make a difference and are a fair expectation while staying at an expensive Inn. Breakfast was very good and Eileen made an extra effort to make it delicious. Also the breakfast room is enjoyed at the top floor conservatory which has a lovely view of the port. Overall, a nice, functional Inn that with a little more attention to detail would easily be five stars.

Awesome delightful and warm. Stayed in Victoria room. 1st floor. So clean and beautifully designed. Walked to Bowens wharf for sunset cruise. Stopped at Red Parrot for a delicious dinner. Woke up to a delicious hot made to order sweet Bread French toast with bacon also a lovely little fruit dish with vanilla yogurt upstairs in Conservatory which had a lovely view. Heidi, the innkeeper was especially pleasant and helpful. Also wine around 5pm was put out for guests. Our go to bed and breakfast in the heart of Newport, is The Artful Dodger.

Stayed in the second floor room. To access the room one must climb an old, rickety circular staircase with narrow treads. Breakfast is an additional flight up on equally difficult to navigate stairs. Our room was dusty, the baseboards were dirty, the walls in the bathroom looked like they were repaired by an amateur. BMost disconcerting, no apparent means to escape the second floor room in the event of an emergency. Fire alarm pull box at exit door was literally labeled as 'local alarm only.' Perhaps other rooms were respectable, the room we stayed in should not be rented out, period, exclamation point.

Had a great time in Newport this weekend, made even more pleasant by our stay at the Artful Lodger. Heidi was communicative ahead of our stay and upon arrival and shared ideas of things to do in the area. Breakfast was delicious, quick, and relaxing and the location was very convenient to walk to everything we wanted to do. The room was clean and comfortable. We'd definitely return!

We just returned from a four night stay at the Artful Lodger Inn in Newport, RI and it was wonderful! Our room was perfect! (Estelle Suite) Our breakfasts were delicious and was accompanied by an incredible view from the breakfast room. The Inn's location is great, too. Within walking distance to the downtown area, but just enough removed that its nice & quiet at night. We were in town for the Jazz Festival and the Artful Lodger Inn was a lovely, relaxing stay after hot, busy days! We will be back for sure!
