Absolutely amazing stay! The hotel was exceptional! Service was top class, loved all the details of the hotel! Drinks and Food was so delish! Views were amazing! Will be back!

Check in as always was friendly and very quick. We were even met by Ashwin which was very nice. The decorations inside and outside we very festive, they really get into the Christmas spirit. The rooms as always were very clean, and the housekeeping staff are very friendly. The weather was not all that great so we had limited time by the pool, but the time we did have there was always someone around. Shout out to Josh who was always making sure everyone was taken care of. We had Christmas lunch in the Grill Room which was exceptional. The food, service and entertainment we first class. Breakfasts as always the food is amazing. A special thank you to Sebastian and Zodwa the Breakfast manager. Then to Nicolene, if they could take that ladies attitude and service and apply it to everyone, there is no way that anyone could ever complain. She was always on had, always friendly and nothing was ever to much trouble. Now the reason for the 4 and not 5 stars. We have had issues on our previous visits and again on this one. Those have now been addressed directly with the hotel management in detail. So we shall see going forward what happens. It definitely will not stop us from returning in the future. We cannot let a few things/people take away from what is an amazing place that really takes you away from the real world while you are there.

At the outset, I must admit that I am a biased reviewer, because I love The Oyster Box Hotel, and am a fairly regular visitor. However, in mid March my wife and I were guests, rather than visitors, and spent three nights there, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. We were warmly welcomed and pampered from the outset, and made to feel very special, including finding treats and a bottle of bubbly in our room. Our favourite space is the outside terrace, with its stunning sea views, and the iconic lighthouse, which is almost a part of the hotel. We spent much time there. The hotel is now in the very capable hands of the excellent Roberto Rosa. He has a fantastic complement of staff. Right up there at the top is the debonair and affable Justin Botha - the perfect person to lead customer relations. He really made us feel like VIPs. We enjoyed all the facilities, and highlights were drinks with friends at The Lighthouse Bar, relaxing in the library, a celebration dinner in The Grill Room, and a wonderful body massage at The Spa. There are too many staff members to mention for their care, pampering and concern, but standouts include George, who heads The Grill Room, and Lethu, Zinhle, Thobile, Mandisa, Sebastian, Ryan, Richard and William. (My apologies to anyone that I have left out) We left with fabulous memories, and long to return for another five star experience. For us, this is without any shadow of doubt, Durban’s premier hotel.

Lovely Rooms great service at the pool deck is great. The buffet is a disaster. It’s very busy the food is completely mediocrity. Used to be outstanding. Just one dish many lousy dishes is the butter chicken and it tastes like sloppy hard tough chicken. The chefs that are behind the buffet look bored and not motivated -to give you the best food or try hard and the waiters are rushing up and down like crazy at hectic pace. Really disappointing food from Hotel that used to have one of the best curry buffets in South Africa. I’m sure the hotel management have not tasted the food for for months or years! Yet the hotel is busy

This was my first time staying at The Oyster Box, but definitely the first of many. I have honestly never experienced a hotel with such fantastic service. From arrival to check out, my friend and I were treated like royalty. Special mention to Thobile for giving us tips on where the local vibes were, Kishan for dropping us off at a local restaurant and asking the manager there to personally take care of us, Brandin for bringing us ice at a late hour with a massive smile on his face! This place is just FABULOUS! Well done to The Oyster Box and their amazing team. Will see you again soon!

It is no mystery that The Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga is the epiphany of opulence and bliss. We adore our visits to this world class hotel each and every time. Worth every penny, the food is pricey but I’ve never tasted anything like it. It tasted as if they had just caught the seafood that night and cooked it for us. We were served by the loveliest waitress, Zinhle, she was very friendly and knew what good hospitality was about. And don’t get me started on the scenery! Definitely coming back for my next holiday.

Wonderful stay at this Hotel, 5 star treatment all the way, stayed in the Lombard suite, beautiful, food was excellent and enjoyed all the amenities, including watching a movie in the cinema… staff were brilliant, thank you Oyster Box.

The Oyster Box is really wonderful. Beautifully situated right on the beach and staff who go the extra mile on everything. Luxurious, comfort , fabulous food, service and a wonderful pool area. We couldn't fault our stay. the Management and staff go beyond their call of duty to make a difference . The Oyster Box gets 5 stars from us and richly deserved. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back next year .
