Clarendon Hotel

Great location, right next to Civic Theatre. Music on in the garden on a Sunday afternoon but not too loud that when in room it’s deafening. No parking on site but we street parked nearby on Sunday afternoon (free on Sunday) then paid only for an hour on the Monday morning - 5 minute walk. Clean big rooms, new bathrooms, balcony good size and overlooked courtyard. Restaurant bistro awesome and really wonderful choice of beers on tap. Will stay here again, thanks team Clarendon. Your staff are also brilliant!

Classic war-time hotel with art-deco features -- built on the site of another hotel, The Waverley -- and designed for the modern age by Pitt and Merewether (name ring a bell?). This was our first time staying at the Clarendon; our son recommended it to us. Centrally located, these days it's a lively joint, and popular, with live bands, *************, beer garden, bar, and cafe/restaurant. We ended up with a King-sized charming and spacious room facing onto Hunter Street with a balcony, and little kitchenette (no cooking facilities but you don't need them here!). When the French doors were shut, it was quite sound proof, but we liked to have them open when we weren't sleeping. We had asked for a quiet room and were told that the hotel didn't have any, but Deb, the manager on reception/admin., looked after us -- she was friendly, efficient, and responsive (five stars right there). The lighting levels in the room were perfect, day or night - I loved the full-length windows. The bed was firm, and sheets fresh (pillows a bit soft, for me). As for parking, the online instructions are easy to follow. There's a drop-off point at the back of the hotel to unload/load your suitcases, but you can't park there for any length of time. Overall, a very comfortable, centrally located, well-priced hotel in Newcastle.

They really need to put disclaimer on accommodation telling you that it will be crazy loud in your room with the band playing...!!! Cant hear a damn thing in my room over the music. Hardly relaxing..off to the bar I guess and wait it out. Can't beat em.. Not 4 star and not relaxing.

Perfect location, clean property/refurbished, great value if your going for a night out in Newcastle as long as you don't plan on getting into bed until about 1am as there is live music etc downstairs which we enjoyed during pre-dinner drinks on our balcony there.......I would definitely stay again if I was having a night out in Newcastle. If you did want a quieter room then request to be on the street side of the hotel away from the back of the building where music is playing.

The hotel was right in the thick of things, but wasnt noisy or too bright. The room was clean, the staff were nice and helpful. There were lots of places to eat around and many things to do.

We had turned up late but communication and instructions on where to find the lock box was fantastic.

Stay here if you like loud music next to your room, that loud you can’t hear your tv. Food was ordinary and rooms very tired. Parking is a good 5-10 minute walk away. Hotel is a hole as well. Just don’t stay here. No one from my work ever will again.

Stayed at the Clarendon for the Newcastle 500. Great location to track, the room was spacious and very clean with good air conditioning - perfect on such a hot weekend. Friendly service at check in and close to everything we needed! Thank you.

A weekend getaway to lovely Old Quebec - made so delightful by this hotel. Greeted by Doorman Mario who took care of parking our car in the Hotels underground lot. Mario took us up to our room, with luggage, and then got us a bucket of ice. We had a king room on 6th floor with view of the old city and down river. Most comfortable, first class beds, well appointed, great shower and quiet. We dined in the Hotel at "Les Mordus" - cosy fireside table well looked after by Anik, Sara - delicious seafood menu and copious breakfasts. Our room was well looked after and spic-and-span clean by Katia. So, bottom line high marks for all the young staff. Bravo! NOTE for Management - suggest you have felt pads placed on the bottom of legs of chairs in "Les Mordus" - this will definitely eliminate the annoying screeching sound as chairs are moved back and forth by patrons.
